In Indonesia, Virginia Tech consultants are working to train farmers and trainers in how to cultivate coffee, cocoa, tea, cashew, cotton and black pepper with minimal pesticide use.

They also conduct training in other environmentally-friendly and economically
advantageous techniques. In particular, Virginia Tech is involved
with curriculum development for Farmer Field Schools, a participatory
learning process that helps farmers discover answers for themselves
and become experts in farming and marketing their crops. Virginia
Tech is developing materials to help farmers manage their pests with
natural control techniques that utilize predators, parasitoids and
pathogens.
