Led by Virginia Tech with OIRED as the Management Entity, the IPM CRSP seeks to coordinate research collaboration among more than 30 U.S., host country and international institutions.

Farmers weigh green beans in Mali.
Local scientists in Uganda, Mali, Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador, Eritrea, Jamaica, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Albania are collaborating with U.S. specialists in entomology, plant pathology, weed science, economics, gender issues, and related fields to implement interdisciplinary research, and training and information exchange with foreign institutions. Research focuses on reducing pest damage and pesticide residues on peas, blackberries, raspberries, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potatoes, onions, cut flowers, and vanilla, implementing IPM in transitional production systems, and developing innovative IPM methods. An important aspect of this project is the development and reinforcement of institutional IPM capacities and networks in developing countries. Seminar and workshops are held to disseminate techniques and research results throughout each region. The strong U.S. and international graduate student involvement in this program benefits both U.S. universities and host country programs.
Phase III of IPMCRSP began in January 2005 and is ongoing. http://www.ag.vt.edu/ipmcrsp/index.asp
