The Research and Development wing of OIRED pursues a range of
projects, most of which are funded by USAID. Working to ensure food
security in Ethiopia, reduce the use of harmful pesticides in the
Caribbean, advance Integrated Pest Management (IPM) internationally,
and promote sustainable agriculture and natural resource management
in West Africa-these are just some of OIRED's efforts. Benefits are
multilateral: local communities receive technical assistance, and VT
faculty get to bring their overseas experience back to the
classroom.
