Countries of work experience: The People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea.

Experience Summary: Dr. Berkley-Coats taught Modern East Asian History at several universities, including the following: The Chinese University of Hong Kong; The University of Maryland at College Park; Virginia Tech; Auburn University at Montgomery; and The University of Guam. He has published a number of articles and an award winning book in the field of Modern East Asian History. In 1997, he was appointed to the newly established position of Director for International Programs at the University of Guam. In that position, which he held until he retired from the University of Guam in 2002, Dr. Berkley-Coats traveled extensively throughout East and Southeast Asia, promoting the University of Guam and recruiting International Students and Scholars. Dr. Berkley-Coats also obtained J-1 Visa (Graduate Students and Research Scholars) status for the University of Guam. At VT, his primary responsibility is to process non-student (J-1 and H-1B) visas.
