If your son/daughter
will be studying on a non-Virginia Tech study abroad program, he/she
will still be able to use some forms of financial aid if he/she has
chosen a program that has been approved by the Office of International
Research, Education, and Development. In order to have his/her financial
aid transferred to a study abroad program sponsored by another university,
he/she must request a consortium agreement from the Office of International
Research, Education, and Development. The agreement must be signed by
both Virginia Tech and the study abroad program.
Please consider
the following:
* If your son or daughter does
not receive aid currently, he/she may qualify for the term he/she will
be abroad. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
form available in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid in 222
Burruss Hall. This form must be on file in order for him/her to be considered
for any type of aid. Fill it out even if he/she is unsure at this point
- it can only help the process in the long run.
*
Encourage your son/daughter to meet with a financial aid counselor to
learn more about what types of aid or assistance he/she may qualify
for, and to learn exactly how the financial aid process applies to study
abroad.
