There are a wide variety of guidebooks designed for the student and/or budget traveler. Listed below are a few of the best series available:
*Rough Guides: A candid UK based guidebook that provides detailed information about transportation, accommodation, and sightseeing.
*Lonely Planet Series: Australia adventure based guidebook series for the independent traveler.
*Let’s Go: This series, put together by Harvard students, gives you the details on everything from bus routes to interesting nightspots. NB: as this is a popular guidebook, the places in it are often crowded and filled with other Americans.
*Berkeley Guides: The students at UC Berkeley have put together their own series of budget guides. Similar to the Let’s Go guides, the information is presented with a funky, loose attitude.
* Fodor’s "Off the Beaten Track": These guides provide specific itineraries, highlights and tips about where to go Hotels and restaurants are listed from inexpensive to expensive and give you a broader range of choices than Let’s Go and Berkeley.
