Villa Maderni is a 250 year old home that requires special considerations. Below is a list of expectations of the residents:

* The tiles in Villa Maderni are over 250 years old and the oils from your feet are damaging to them, so please wear shoes at all times.
* The ground floor of the Villa Maderni is a public area where the University receives visitors. Please do not be on these floors if you are not suitably dressed (i.e. no pajamas, towels, robes, etc). The administrative and faculty offices are located on the ground floor and first floor of Villa Maderni. Please dress and act the same in these offices as you would in Blacksburg.
*
Every student will receive a card to the garden gate and Villa Maderni. The front door will be locked every day after business hours. This is not meant as a curfew, but as a safety measure for those living in the houses. Students are expected to carry their cards and keys with them at all times.
* During the cold-weather season, it is imperative that the doors to the outside remain closed. Please close them if you see any open and don’t leave them open yourself, even if you will be out for just a second.

* The shutters of the Villa Maderni are particular and require care when opening and closing. When opening the outside shutters, hook them securely against the house with the special hooks attached. In the summer evenings, we recommend you keep the outside shutters closed if the windows are open to prevent insects from entering. If you have any questions about the windows and shutters, please ask.
* Remember that the Villa Maderni and the vehicle are smoke-free. You may smoke outdoors. Please dispose of your cigarette butts properly so that the gardener does not have to spend time picking them up.
* Since tape, tacks and nails damage the walls, you may use poster gum to hang objects.
* We recycle bottles, cans, paper & batteries. Containers are located in each building.
* There are no overnight guests (friends, parents, etc.) allowed in the student rooms. No exceptions! Since guests may not stay overnight, the center can help you arrange accommodations for them locally.
* Though food items may not be stored or consumed in bedrooms and classrooms, they may be kept and consumed on the ground floor of each building.
* Quiet hours are as follows:
Monday – Friday: 8:30 – 5:30 (Business Hours)
Sunday-Wednesday: 10:00p.m.-7:00a.m.
Thursday-Saturday: 12:00a.m.-10:00a.m.
All hours are courtesy hours, and thus if you are asked to lower your noise level, please do immediately. Headphones will be provided for using sound on the computers; radios should be kept low enough that they cannot be heard outside the closed door of a room. Sound travels far in Villa Maderni.

During the determined quiet hours, the noise must be kept at a level that will not disturb those studying or sleeping.
* All students are held accountable to the rules and regulations of the Virginia Tech Policies for Student Life. The Hokie Handbook is available on line.
