Extension Advisor (EA)

The EA helps build the capacity of Regional and Woreda extension personnel of the Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development (BoARD) by upgrading the skills of its extension staff through appropriate technical courses and materials development.  The EA develops programs that promote participatory efforts in activity planning and management by rural households and communities.  Specifically, the EA handles the following duties and responsibilities:

• Assists the pilot Woreda Office of Agriculture and Rural Development (WOARD) to design and implement effective extension service at selected target Kebeles (peasant associations) through introducing proper extension techniques, preparation of annual work plan and program coordination support;

• Assists WOARD in monitoring and evaluation of program activities to insure smooth implementation of planned activities;

• Assists WOARD at pilot woredas in particular and the ANRS in general in identification and promotion of adaptable technologies;

• Assists WOARD of pilot woredas in the design of appropriate training modules for upgrading the skills of DAs and extension personnel working at various levels;

• Coordinates or participates as a resource person in trainings organized at pilot woreda and/or ANRS level as appropriate;

• Collaborates with the Research Advisor and works closely with Research Centers, WOARDs of pilot woredas, and farmers in the selected Kebeles to design and test a more effective farmer-research-extension linkage mechanism;

• Assists ANRS in preparing and reviewing various extension related reports and proposals for promotion of the extension service;

• Designs and facilitates experience-sharing mechanisms with other organizations (Govt., NGOs, and Donor) working within or outside the ANRS;

• Assists WOARD and ANRS in organizing or participating as a resource person in workshops and seminars related to extension;

• Prepares annual research work plans, progress reports, field trip reports, research projects, workshops and seminars pertinent to the extension component;

• Works closely with and executes additional assignments as directed by the CoP.
