Information Technology
Example: High Tech University in Egypt
OIRED is active in expanding the benefits of Information Technology internationally. In Egypt, for example, OIRED is working with PaL-Tech, a private sector firm, to establish Nile University — a university devoted exclusively to high technology subjects. Nile University will offer undergrad, master's and Ph.D. programs in: IT, Communications, Biotech, Emerging Technology, and Alternative Energy Solutions. Virginia Tech's International Institute of IT (VT IIIT) is fully involved in the IT initiative internationally.

Egypt has a strong base of engineering and science graduates, but
the training they receive is highly theoretical. Additionally, courses are
conducted in Arabic, not English, which means that many of the resources of
e-commerce and the Internet are not available to the new graduates. Nile
University will enhance Egyptian education and training systems so that they can
respond more efficiently to the needs of the private sector. This will help
create the base for a modern IT-oriented workforce.
