Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a collaborative agreement between two entities. Virginia Tech has MOUs with other universities, non-governmental organizations (NGO) and private sector organizations to cooperate on specific tasks and issues. If a Virginia Tech MOU involves a sponsored project, it must be reviewed by the general counsel and the office of sponsored programs. The MOU is then administered by the Office of International Research, Education and Development. For a complete list of MOUs, visit the MOU database.
Virginia Tech has approximately 160 MOUs with organizations around the world.  These MOUs cover everything from student exchange agreements to collaborative research ventures. For a complete list of all MOUs at Virginia Tech, please visit the MOU database.
The president of Virginia Tech or a designated representative is the final authority on MOUs. All MOUs must be reviewed by university counsel before the Office of the Associate Provost for International Affairs can process them.
