Center for
European Studies and Architecture (CESA)
What and
where is it?
Virginia Tech's
200-year old facility, Casa Maderni, is in Riva San Vitale,
Switzerland. This serves as a Tech "campus" on Lake Lugano near
the Italian border. The casa facilities include computers, an
architecture studio, a small library, classrooms, and dormitory
rooms. Italian language instruction is offered by local
professors, while other courses are taught by VT faculty. This
program is exclusively for VT students. Visit the
CESA website
for more information.
This type of
program is sometimes known as an "island" program, meaning you
will not be integrated into a foreign school system. Instead,
you will take courses that would normally be taught at Virginia
Tech, alongside other Virginia Tech students.
Where will I live?
Students live in
the villa or in a nearby apartment. All meals are served family
style in the villa.
When can I
go?
Anyone can study
at CESA during either the fall or spring semester or for an
academic year. Your major and academic interests dictate when
you are eligible to study at CESA.

College of Business. Students take 18 credits of Finance,

two at a time in modules of five weeks each, offering an
opportunity for intensive learning.
