Information for Students: Departing | Currently Abroad | Returning

Relating Your International Experience In Resumes and Interviews

 

On your resume, include your semester or year of education abroad in with your university education. Specify that it was a study abroad and state the school and country. If you have international work abroad experience, volunteer abroad experience, or an internship abroad, include it in the relevant section of your resume.

 

Resume Example 1

You should include your study abroad experience in the Education section of your resume. Consider writing foreign terms in English such as Universite d'Angers as University of Angers.

 

     B.S. IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, May 2006

     Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA

     -   GPA: 3.0

     -   Senior Project: Design a wind and solar power generation system for the Philippines

 

     STUDY ABROAD, International Student Exchange Program, Fall 2004 - Spring 2005

     University of Angers, Angers, France

     -   Studied classical music and French

     -   Enrolled in a French-speaking curriculum

     -   Examined the effects of classical music listening on the motor coordination of a geriatric population as a independent research project

 

Resume Example 2

You will gain many skills abroad that others may gain during work experience at home. Consider including your academic study abroad experience again under a category called Experience.

 

     STUDY ABROAD, International Student Exchange Program, Fall 2004 - Spring 2005

     University of Angers, Angers, France

     -   Adapted quickly to the French academic system and culture

     -   Lead a multicultural team in classical music research project

     -   Learned to easily establish rapport with people with different values and cultural norms

 

Resume Example 3

Include international work experience
